Indian 1-Year e-Visa for UK Citizens

India offers 1-year e-Visas for the nationals of the United Kingdom. It allows them to stay in the country for up to 180 days for tourism and business visits.

Who is Eligible

India grants e-Visas to citizens of over 180 countries. UK passport holders are eligible to apply for electronic visas for 12 months.  

Please note that holders of diplomatic/official passports and international travel documents are not eligible to apply for the Indian e-Visas. UK citizens of Pakistani origin can only apply for a regular embassy visa.  

Types of One-year Indian e-Visas

UK nationals can avail the following types of 1 year e-Visas:  

1 Year Tourist e-Visa  

• Purpose of Visit: It is available for short trips, meeting friends and family, yoga retreats, and volunteer work.  

• Duration: 365 days or a year from the date of grant of ETA  

• Entry type: Multiple entries  

• Maximum continuous stay: 180 days for nationals of the UK, USA, Canada, and Japan. It's 90 days for other eligible countries.  

• Cost: 34 GBP approximately (processing fee included)

1 Year Business e-Visa

• Purpose of Visit: It is available to carry out some business activities.  

• Maximum duration: One year  

• Entry type: Multiple entries  

• Maximum continuous stay: 180 days for nationals of all eligible countries, including the United Kingdom.  

• Stay: Should the UK visa holder intend to stay for more than 180 days in India, he/she must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). Alternatively, he/she is the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) concerned within two weeks after the 180-day period expires.  

• Cost: 81.86 GBP( the bank charge of 2.5% will be charged additional on applicable e-Visa fees)

Other Indian e-Visas

India also offers 30-day tourist e-Visa (1 month), 5-year tourist e-Visa (60 months), medical e-Visa for patients & e-Medical attendant visa (60 days), and conference e-visa (30 days) to British travelers.  

However, e-Emergency X Miscellaneous is only available for Afghan nationals and not visitors from the United Kingdom. Please note such electronic visas are not valid for 1 year. 

British Travelers Entering India via Cruise Ship

Please note that if the cruise ship itinerary includes more than two stops at Indian ports, the 30-day Tourist e-Visa (double entry visa) is not valid. In such cases, visitors from the UK must apply for a 1-year (multiple entry) e-tourist visa to ensure compliance with visa regulations.   

It is important to note that all cruise ship stops must be at approved ports of entry designated for Indian e-Visa holders.
