The online process makes it easy and undemanding to obtain this travel document for Costa Rica. The National Immigration Institute (INM) introduced it for tourist activities in particular. For tourists from Costa Rica to enter Mexico, a Mexico Tourist card is mandatory. In order to apply for a visa, they need contact or visit the embassy.

If they intend to visit Mexico by road or flight, Costa Ricans need a Mexico Tourist Card. Commenced in 2015, the electronic system has made the application process comfortable. Following its processing, applicants can receive it on the email id that they will have entered in the online form.

Enter Relevant Details in the Online Application: Costa Ricans need to enter the relevant information in the online application form. It is wise to re-examine the information, better safe than sorry. 

No Softcopy Submission: When applying online, the applicant need not submit any softcopy. A valid passport number, however, needs to be entered in the form.

Payment of Fee: The online step culminates with the payment of fee, which is done using a credit or a debit card. The Mexico Tourist Card, after processing, is emailed to the address mentioned in the form.

Applicants have the option to keep colored or black and white printouts of both sides of the Mexico Tourist Card with them on their way to Mexico. Though it is not mandatory, however, it is a backup just in case there is a technical glitch with the email. The immigration authorities present at the airport verify this travel document. 

Important to Know for Applicants

On a Mexico Tourist Card, no other travel purpose is allowed besides those for tourism. Travelers must not indulge in any type of activity or occupation that involves a payment, during their trip. Costa Ricans must carry printouts of this Card when they are at the country’s entry point. The online application process also requires tourists to provide their flight details like ticket and flight numbers in the application form.

To get the Mexico Tourist Card, travelers from Costa Rica do not have to upload any documents. They must, however, have the following with them: 

  1. A passport with a validity of 180 days since their arrival in Mexico.

  2. Flight details about their travel to Mexico.

After Landing in Mexico

Traveling to Mexico is easy, isn’t it, with a Mexico Tourist Card for Costa Ricans? After reaching Mexico, visitors must carry the Mexico Tourist Card, visa and their valid passport. These are the travel documents that are scanned by the keen eye of the immigration officials at the Mexico airport. Just be sure that the passport is the same one that was used during the application process and has a validity of 6 months.

To Apply for the Mexico Visa

If your travel destination is Mexico, or you are in the country in-transit, a valid Mexico Tourist Visa and a Tourist Card are indispensable requirements. You can apply for a Mexico visa from any Mexican embassy from your native country or from a different country. The official duration to process a Mexico visa is decided by the Mexican embassy where the to-be traveler is applying from. Mexican embassies situated at different locations do not have the same processing durations. It is inevitable for applicants therefore to book an appointment for a Mexico visa with the respective Mexican embassy not less than 4 weeks before their scheduled travel date.

A Mexico visa can be applied for at a Mexican embassy in the applicant’s domicile country (or in the any other country). The application process comprises the following steps:

The Mexico embassy where the applicant has applied from has the visa processing time mentioned clearly. On the other hand, applicants can also contact the embassy officials to query about the time taken to process their visa. The reason for this is that every embassy has a different timeframe for visa processing. One embassy might take 2 business days, whereas the other might take 10 business days. Moreover, some embassies inform applicants to schedule their appointment at least four weeks before their trip.
