ETIASfor Macau Citizens

European governments are trying to make visiting the Schengen Zone safer than ever before for citizens of Macau and others, too. By the beginning of 2021, they plan to implement the European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS. This system screens travelers who do not need a visa to enter the area and does not permit them in if they pose any danger to fellow travelers or to European citizens.

Macau citizens are eligible for ETIAS

How to Get an ETIAS Visa Waiver

It’s easy to get an ETIAS for Macau citizens. Travelers need only to fill out the short application and pay a small fee. The entire process is designed to be completed online so that travelers don’t need to worry about mailing in papers or presenting documents for inspection. In fact, the online application is so easy that it only takes most people 10-15 minutes to complete and submit it.

Travelers from MO can make the process even easier by getting the following items together before they apply. They will need:

  • Their current, updated passport from Macau. This needs to be valid for at least 6 months beyond their arrival date in Europe. If it is not, they will need a new passport before they fill out the application.
  • A credit card. This is only to pay the application fee and will not be stored or used for any other purposes.
  • An email address they will check regularly.

Each part of the application contains specific instructions. In order to get an ETIAS visa waiver for Europe, applicants will need to enter personal data about themselves, including data about arrests and convictions, political affiliations, and possible infection with communicable diseases.

Once they submit their application, applicants should hear back within several weeks. Most, however, will hear much sooner than that and many will hear immediately. They will get an email to the address they provided when they applied for their ETIAS visa waiver.

Making the Most of an ETIAS for Citizens from Macau

After an ETIAS visa waiver for Europe has been approved, travelers don’t need to do anything except to carry the exact same passport from MO that they used when they applied. European officials will scan this document, see that the ETIAS visa waiver has been applied for and approved, and allow the traveler to enter the Schengen Zone.

Once they are in the Schengen Zone, travelers can move about freely among the countries without needing any more travel permissions. The ETIAS for citizens from Macau is good for up to 3 years or until the traveler’s current passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows for stays of up to 90 days. Each traveler, including children and infants, will need his or her own ETIAS visa waiver in order to enter the area.

While getting an ETIAS for citizens from Macau is an extra step in the process, it makes travel so much safer! Travelers should be grateful that the European governments are taking this step to protect them.
