Turkey Relaxing Restrictions to Boost Tourism in 2021

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

At the current time, Turkey is welcoming passengers from the US and certain other international destinations. Turkey requires all visitors to the country to present a negative COVID-19 test which will need to have been obtained 72 hours or less before boarding your flight to Turkey. In order to enter Turkey, you’ll have to fill in an entry form online, and the eVisa before your trip. There’s also a chance you will be checked for symptoms of COVID-19 upon your entry to the country in one of the airports.

Countries Turkey is Restricting

In the past few months, Turkey has still had restrictions on certain countries entering Turkey. The list includes Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India, but you’ll want to ensure you double-check these requirements before you travel. If you do need to transit through Turkey, this is usually allowed as long as you aren’t physically entering the country. For anyone who is entering Turkey but has been in one of these countries in the past 14 days, you’ll have to quarantine in a specific location as determined by the government for 14 days upon your arrival. On the final day, you’ll take another PCR test, which will determine whether you are free to leave.

For anyone entering Turkey that’s been in Pakistan or Afghanistan in the past 14 days, you’ll need to quarantine for 10 days, but after the test is taken on day seven, your quarantine can be finished. The quarantine hotels will have a fee associated with them, and you’ll need to check the transportations requirements that will be set by the government.

Turkey is Quickly Re-Opening

Turkey is now welcoming some countries without testing if they have had the vaccine or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past six months. You’ll need to show proof of these upon your arrival, however, if you don’t have these, you’ll have to present the negative COVID-19 test like other individuals have to. Turkey is stating that there may be sample testing taking place in the arrival hall, but you would still be allowed to travel to your hotel after this testing. However, if you do test positive, you will then have to quarantine. For Turkish citizens, you’ll have to submit a document before you return home to show that you have been tested, received a vaccination, or have recovered from the virus.

As you can see, the Turkish restrictions vary greatly between countries and depending on your vaccine status. Pay close attention to these and ensure you meet all of the requirements before boarding your plane this year. Turkey’s restrictions were reasonably relaxed in the past year, but due to the rising cases in April 2021, the country entered its first lockdown, and cases reached around the 5 million mark. Now that the summer is here, the country is keen to make up for lost time last year and welcome back visitors from around the world. Expect restrictions to be in place throughout the country, especially in resorts and hotels or on public transportation. Follow basic health and safety guidelines throughout your trip to look after you and your family during your vacation to Turkey.

Summer is coming, and the tourism season is not far ahead. Turkey, the top-ranked tourist attraction country worldwide that hosted 52.5 million tourists in 2019 along with 2.5 million UK travelers, is paying particular attention to revive tourism in 2021.

Chairperson of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers’ Association (AKTOB) says,

“We are ready for the season. We will welcome our guests within the framework of the measures we have taken. Our expectation is to go above the numbers we achieved last year. We are hopeful.”

Turkey Steps to Reduce Covid-19 spikes

Although Turkey is greatly affected by the third coronavirus wave, yet it is very serious about the tourism revival in 2021 because it is a crucial sector of their economy. Therefore, it has implemented a strict lockdown restricting inter-cities transportation to reduce Covid-19 spread and welcome British and other tourists in 2021.

Turkey suffers a massive drop in 2020 due to pandemic, but it doesn’t want the same situation in 2021. According to official data, the number of visitors decreased by 72% in 2020, and there was a two-third loss of tourism revenue.

Measures Taken By Turkey to Reduce Threat from Tour Management

The tourism industry has completed its preparation for the new season, in affiliation with the Safe Tourist Certification Program, Covering a broad range of safety measures in accommodation, transportation, and health conditions of tourists.

This program also understands the threat of disease from the hosts and, therefore, takes necessary measures to vaccinate all the persons at top priority who have to deal with tourists. It includes security personnel, tourist guides, hotel employees, and others.

Special Measures for UK Citizens

UK tourists are the heart of Turkish Tourism, and more than 2 million UK citizens come to turkey every year in the summer. Therefore, the Turkish tourism minister and tour management are especially working for UK travelers.

Turkey has made it easier to enter the country. It has allowed direct flight from the UK int Turkey without any hassle of Vaccination Certificates. However, you must have a negative PCR test to visit Turkey this summer.

Further, all the hotels associated with the Safe Tourism Program and Turkish Airports are providing testing facilities for just $30 and deliver the reports in a few hours so that you can check results before departing turkey.

Additionally, Turkey tourism also includes a 15 Euro package for covid-19 medication and treatment.

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Tourism for Turkey, says,

“We are looking forward to welcoming British tourists with open arms, as we did safely last summer. We have world-class border processes in place for ensuring travel will be low-risk throughout Turkey. We are working with the British authorities to ensure these necessary processes are world-class and as up-to-date as possible. We will not require vaccination passports from international travelers when entering the country.”

Final Words

Tourism is the backbone of the Turkish economy, and the UK is the most important country for Turkish tourism. Therefore, the Turkish government is taking all the necessary steps to revive tourism with the UK in 2021 that you can see above in the article.
